Can I take my FLIT bike on a plane?

TRANSPORTING LITHIUM ION BATTERIES

Taking ebikes on planes is quite tricky because of their lithium ion battery, which is classed as “dangerous goods”. Generally airlines won’t let you take anything onboard with a lithium ion battery bigger than 100Wh. Different airlines have different rules, so if you know which airline you’ll be flying with it would be worth checking what their rules are. The FLIT-16’s battery is 230Wh and the M2's is 250Wh.

If you can’t take the bike and battery onboard, another option is to ship the battery separately to your bike. In this case however you will need to find a courier that can pack and handle dangerous goods. The rules are less strict for road/sea freight over shipping by air so generally it’s best to ship batteries for road or sea depending on where you’re going.

PACKING YOUR BIKE FOR SAFE TRANSIT

We aren't aware of any third party hard cases that will fit either the FLIT-16 or the M2 at the moment so the next best option is to reuse the bike's original packaging.

We can advise on packing your bike safely if you let us know which case you choose and send a photo of your bike inside so we can see how much room there is to spare. We recommend removing the retaining hook too when transporting the bike as this part is sensitive during transit.

The rules around shipping dangerous goods are strict and can be complex, so if you have any questions or need help please get in touch.
