Are there any plans for a belt drive?
Belt drives currently available from reputable manufacturers (eg. Gates) do not permit the use of small sprockets/pulleys as this significantly reduces the lifespan of the belt. This is because running a belt around a small sprocket significantly increases the stresses on the fibres in the belt. In order to achieve such a small folded size, the FLIT-16 and M2 must use both small wheels and a tensioner, thereby precluding the use of a belt drive. Although it would be possible to use a belt, we felt that the reduced service life would be unacceptably short.
